Literally translated from the Chinese “Dragon Well Tea” this Green Tea has earned the “China Famous Tea” title.
Selected tea leaves from around the Longjiang village in Zhejiang Province of China are pan-roasted to stop the oxidation process. Dragonwell tea was popular among the ruling elite in the Qing dynasty and is still considered a tea to be served to high-status dignitaries. There are many legends woven through the history of this tea with the fascinating story of the 18 original tea bushes at the Hu Gong Temple having Imperial status conferred by the Qianlong Emperor on one of his visits. The steeped infusion is a yellow-green or amber colour with a nutty taste and a sweet aroma. It contains Vitamin C, amino acids and one of the highest levels of catechins of all teas.
